”Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun.” Ecclesiastes 11:7 ESV
“He (God) is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings grass from the earth.” 2 Samuel 23:4 NIV
This is a major diversion from my “normal” style. Do you like it? If not, it’s ok but please don’t blow me off just yet, think about this…
Yellow is a tricky color to wear but it’s a happy color. It reminds us of happiness, of bright things and sunshine, a new day, dispelling darkness.
Sunshine brings warmth even to the coldest of days. It enables frozen water to flow again, warms hibernating animals to awaken. We take the sun for granted, rarely thinking about it (unless, perhaps, it’s a very hot day). But it is the source of life on our planet, God’s gift of life to each of us.
The rising sun brings hope to our darkness. And it rises without fail every day… day after day after day. We might not see it behind clouds, but it is there. The clouds dropping rain or snow or worse try to convince us that life is hard and hopeless, but we know the sun is there above all the turmoil and we will see it again.
The sun gives us the sight we didn’t have during the darkness of nighttime. We see clearly what was in shadow or hidden completely. During the trials of night, we say, ‘Tomorrow will be better. I’ll feel better in the morning. I’ll understand better tomorrow.’
There’s hope in “tomorrow”. Like Orphan Annie’s song, ”the sun’ll come out tomorrow; take away the sadness and the sorry… tomorrow!” She has hope for another, better day. The sun will rise again bringing with it the promise of a new beginning, a fresh start, another chance.
I’ve been looking at scriptures (there are so many!) about sun and days and God’s glory and I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes. Seeing familiar verses in a new light. Seeing “new” verses I’ve never noticed before. I’m so encouraged! So thankful for the Word of God. So thankful for the color yellow that led me to this place!
I hope this encourages you as much as it has encouraged me!
Who do you know that needs to be encouraged? Who do you know that can use a daily reminder that the SUN/SON is always there even though you can see it/Him, even when it seems that all is darkness?
