Rivers flow from mountains into the sea. At some points, they are slow and placid. Flowing quietly over the shallows. At other places, they flow with great force through narrow gorges and over rocks in their relentless journey to join the ocean. Rivers provide nourishment to crops and recreation for people. Rivers not only provide water, they are also highways upon which goods are moved from city to city. When harnessed, they provide power to fuel cities, farms and industry. When fished, they provide food.
John 7:38 (NASB 1995) “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”
Psalm 46:4 (NASB 1995) “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God. The holy dwelling places of the Most High.” Speaking of the Presence of God who is there to help. He brings peace and calm security in contrast to the turbulent ocean.
Our river is a quiet river bringing the presence of God, His help, His peace, His security. There are some rocks in our river, but the water flows easily and gently around them, continuing its steadfast journey to the sea.
